Skandale in der Pharmaindustrie sind keine Seltenheit und etwa so alt wie die Branche selbst. Die Tatbestände reichen vom Verschweigen von Nebenwirkungen bis zum Verkauf von toxischen oder gar tödlichen Medikamenten. Dass Pharma-Lobbyisten zudem Einfluss ausüben auf Zulassungsbehörden, Ärzte und Patienten um ihre Gewinne zu maximieren, ist ebenfalls längst nachgewiesen. Einer der erschütterndsten und bekanntesten Vorfälle ist der sogenannte Contergan-Skandal aus dem Jahr 1961. Der Pharmakonzern Chemie Grünenthal brachte ab 1957 das Schlaf- und Beruhigungsmittel Contergan auf den Markt. Es wurde als „absolut sicher“ und „gut verträglich“ angepriesen. Contergan war jedoch schwer Fötus schädigend! Schätzungen zufolge starben an die 100.000 Kinder vorgeburtlich, Tausende kamen schwerstbehindert auf die Welt. Dieser Skandal steht exemplarisch dafür, wie viel Leid ein vermeintlich „absolut sicheres“ Pharmaprodukt verursachen kann. Bahnt sich mit der Covid-Impfung ein nächster weltweiter Skandal an?
