CoV-2 from the lab? What the scientific literature reveals
In addition to the program "Illegal Bioweapons Research", this broadcast publishes further research results by biologist Doerte Donker. In it, she reveals that the SARS-CoV-2 virus could be man-made. Or how else to explain that a man-made coronavirus hybrid with the current SARS-CoV-2 virus has a 93% match in the gene sequences?
As a supplement to the program: Illegal Bioweapons Research, in this broadcast further research results by biologist Doerte Donker are to be published.
1 What are coronaviruses?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. They mostly infect terrestrial vertebrates and cause various diseases in them. Most of these viruses can only infect specific animals that belong to their host range, but not humans. They lack the spike protein that enables them to penetrate human cells.
Seven disease-causing coronaviruses have occurred in humans to date. Coronaviruses cause one third of all influenza infections, which can lead to severe pneumonia with fatal consequences if the patient has a relevant pre-existing medical condition. In Germany, 20,000 people die each year from these pneumonias alone. So coronaviruses are not uncommon pathogens, with Sars-CoV2 we just have one more pathogen. [1]
The three new coronaviruses that have only appeared in the last 20 years are called SARS*-CoV, MERS**-CoV and, since September 2019, the new SARS-CoV-2. The associated disease is called COVID-19. [2] *
* SARS = severe acute respiratory syndrome
** MERS = Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus = Coronavirus associated with respiratory syndrome in the Middle East.
2. What is new about SARS-CoV-2?
The new SARS-CoV-2 consists of two virus genomes* (*entirety of the genetic material): the SARS virus and the MERS-virus. This mixing may have occurred in nature. However, the fact that researchers have also found HIV genes gives us a hint that SARS-CoV-2 could be man-made. For the Nobel Prize winner and AIDS researcher Montagnier, this fact is important enough to assume that the virus originated in a laboratory. [3]
3. GOF/PPP- research
As already explained in the programme Illegal Bioweapons Research, in the USA there are several terms in use for this research to assemble viruses and endow them with new properties. On the one hand, they are called PPP research, because it is the research on potentially pandemic pathogens. On the other hand, they are called gain-of-function researches (GOF), which means that the manipulations lead to a gain of function in the viruses, such as their transmissibility to humans and a higher disease-causing potential.
4. Dangerous research
In the course of these gain-of-function researches, in 2016, there is clear evidence that human-infectious SARS virus has been produced, which, as assumed for the current SARS-CoV-2, originates from the horseshoe bat. Ralph Baric from Chapel Hill University of North Carolina produced this virus with his research group and eventually patented it.

Back in 2008, a SARS virus mimic (*virus hybrid) infectious to humans was produced in the USA, and once again Ralph Baric was the top researcher, at that time still at the National Academy of Sciences. So people have been working on such viruses for twelve years, but have not been able to produce drugs and vaccines, which should be the real goal. [5]
5. Production of infectious SARS-CoV virus in the laboratory.
One of the clearest publications from 2016 shall apply as final proof that SARS-CoV-2 originated in a laboratory. (**see quote below) As the researchers report, a coronavirus hybrid was produced. Isolated from a horseshoe bat and equipped with a spike protein (*key to enter human cells), this virus can infect humans, which it could not do without this genetic manipulation. The man-made virus was called SHC014-MA15. This chimera and the current SARS-CoV-2 virus have a 93 % match in the gene sequences. This makes the virus from the Chapel Hill laboratory a possible origin of SARS-CoV-2 that cannot be ruled out. [6] **https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3985
"[...] Using the SARS-CoV reverse genetics system, we generated and characterised a chimeric virus expressing the spike of bat coronavirus SHC014 in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV backbone. The results indicate that group 2b viruses encoding the SHC014 spike in a wild-type backbone can efficiently use multiple orthologs of the SARS receptor human angiotensin converting enzyme II (ACE2), replicate efficiently in primary human airway cells and achieve in vitro titers equivalent to epidemic strains of SARS-CoV. [...]" https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3985
