Theo mong muốn của lãnh đạo EU và Thủ tướng Đức Scholz, một thỏa thuận về hiệp định thương mại tự do Mercosur giữa EU và các nước Mỹ Latinh sẽ đạt được tại hội nghị thượng đỉnh Mercosur. Ngoài các công đoàn, các tổ chức môi trường, phát triển và nhân quyền, nông dân châu Âu cũng bất bình vì thấy sự tồn tại của mình bị đe dọa bởi các sản phẩm giá rẻ. Tuy nhiên, không chỉ nông dân châu Âu mà cả nông dân châu Phi cũng bị đe dọa sự tồn tại của họ do thỏa thuận này. Bạn có thể thấy những hậu quả tàn khốc mà thỏa thuận này có thể gây ra cho cả Châu Âu và Châu Phi trong chương trình mới được phát sóng từ năm 2020 này.

Năm 2019, bên lề hội nghị thượng đỉnh G20 tại Nhật Bản, một hiệp định thương mại tự do đã được ký kết giữa EU và các quốc gia Nam Mỹ gồm Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay và Uruguay. Các đại diện của ngành hoan nghênh việc thành lập khu vực thương mại tự do lớn nhất thế giới này một cách gần như “hưng phấn”. Tuy nhiên, thực tế là các hiệp định này cũng có tác động to lớn, đặc biệt đối với các nước nghèo nhất, hầu như không được thảo luận. Cho đến nay, họ đã được miễn thuế nhập khẩu sản phẩm của mình vào EU.
