Mainstream media: danger of collapse
The discontent against the one-sided reporting of public broadcasting has long been rumbling among its own employees and is therefore gaining enormous weight: the foundation is crumbling - and not just of the German media institutions. A current example from the ORF: the Sonja Sagmeister case.

The criticism of the "one-sided reporting" by ARD, ZDF, ORF and Deutschlandradio from numerous public broadcasting employees is getting louder and louder! Their demand is supported by artists and scientists. They are calling for "more diverse reporting".
The petition "Manifesto for a new public broadcasting" already has over 28,000 signatories calling for more diversity of opinion in the public media. Among them are ex-ARD talk show host Jürgen Fliege and cabaret artist Lisa Fitz.

"We, employees of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio, as well as all other signatories, value strong, independent public broadcasting in Germany as an essential pillar of our democracy, social communication and culture. We are convinced of its principles and programming mandate as laid down in the State Media Treaty. But we see both of these in danger. People's trust in public broadcasting is declining more and more. Doubts about the balance of the program are growing. We have been noticing the growing discrepancy between the program mandate and implementation for many years. We have written this manifesto so that our voice and expertise on the future of public broadcasting can be heard in the social discourse."
Dozens of examples have now been published of how perfidiously the broadcasters act against their own employees when they do not "stay in line". Eva Herman, Ole Skambraks, Katrin Seibold, Martin Ruthenberg and many others have gone public. In this program, Kla.TV is highlighting the case of Sonja Sagmeister on behalf of many others today.
In the run-up to an interview with the Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Kocher in October 2022, the minister's press spokeswoman provided precise information on the content and Ms. Sagmeister was asked to stick to it. She was not prepared to do so. She later courageously attested:
"I have always tried objectively to address current issues, otherwise it would be pure PR journalism. I'm not a microphone stand."
This led to an argument with the speaker and her superior about freedom of the press and editors' rights. Despite everything, Sagmeister conducted the interview as she thought was right and justifiable. After the interview, however, there was a scandal! Her texts and reports were no longer approved and in the end she was completely banned from working as a journalist and editor. Sonja Sagmeister was transferred to the archives. When she complained about this, she was fired by the ORF shortly before the negotiations - after 29 years of working there!
If even the employees doubt their employers (the media) and accuse them of narrow-mindedness and PR journalism - how can we still trust them? We should really ask ourselves whether we can still pay attention to them! The good thing about it: every day more and more people are made aware of dissenting voices. The loss of the public broadcasting media is our gain. Help to spread our programs and uncover the truth with Kla.TV.
