Strategia Europejskiego Banku Centralnego (EBC) polega na ratowaniu mocno zadłużonych państw UE za pomocą tzw. polityki zerowego oprocentowania. Oznacza to: Ci, którzy mają pieniądze w banku, nie otrzymują już od nich odsetek. Wskaźnik inflacji - wartość wyrażająca utratę siły nabywczej na skutek wzrostu cen - w grudniu 2021 r. wzrósł do ponad 5 proc. Oznacza to, że za swoje oszczędności dostajemy o 5% mniej niż rok wcześniej. W latach 2008-2018 przychody z tytułu odsetek zostały skompensowane z wydatkami z tytułu oprocentowania. W rezultacie gospodarstwa domowe poniosły stratę netto w wysokości 123 mld euro. Klasa średnia jest szczególnie dotknięta tym pełzającym wywłaszczeniem, ponieważ większość majątku jest inwestowana w ubezpieczenia na życie i oszczędności. Z kolei jednak, mimo polityki zerowego oprocentowania, niemieckie aktywa finansowe wzrosły w okresie 2011-2019 o 40 proc. do 6,236 bln euro. Oznacza to: Oczywiście polityka ta odpowiada bogatym, natomiast cierpią na tym gospodarstwa domowe reprezentujące głównie klasę średnią i niższą. Jeśli klasa średnia zostanie wywłaszczona z powodu tej polityki zerowego oprocentowania, to prowadzi to coraz bardziej do zniszczenia dużej części dobra wspólnego.
