Biological weapons are weapons of mass destruction in which infectious agents or natural toxins are deliberately used as weapons. The technology in genetic manipulation of insects, viruses, bacteria and the production of toxins is so advanced that control is urgently needed. The fact that so-called gain-of-function research was conducted for years in the USA on potentially pandemic-causing agents and that an infectious SARS virus was verifiably produced in the USA makes it all the more clear that we as a global community must not allow such loopholes or even active disregard of the Geneva Conventions!" The USA and its risky research loophole in the Geneva Conventions "So you breed the most dangerous viruses with the excuse that you want to be prepared with medicines and vaccines if they arise in nature. But every biologist knows that under this camouflage of peaceful research, biological weapons can also be produced. [2] This includes manipulating viruses to produce even more severe disease patterns than they would naturally cause, and can also, for example, spread and multiply more quickly, which means they become more pathogenic and infectious. You endow them with new characteristics by inserting foreign genes into them." "Even on the government side, they talk about the literally worrying research. You can see there that they have tried to work out self-regulations that this research is not misappropriated. Some of these projects have not been funded any further, and working with specific pathogens has been banned. On the contrary, in the course of this research, a SARS virus infectious to humans was produced at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, under the direction of Ralph Baric, which is 93% genetically identical to our current SARS CoV 2: This represents a higher level of conformity than any other hypothesized and discussed origin of the virus. [4] In 2001, the US refused to sign an additional protocol that could have independently controlled this dual-use research. "The US military is one of the biggest sources of funding for research, including research on dual-use viruses.[8] It maintains high-security laboratories and works on viruses and other pathogens. Worth mentioning here are institutions such as DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), an agency of the US Department of Defense. Of course, we don't get to see very much of their research unless their projects are subject to government bidding or final patents have been filed, both of which are the case with the Insect Allies project.[9] The project is about equipping insects to genetically modify plants in the field using viral fragments. This is a technology that, if used as a weapon, can be used to destroy crops. The Max Planck Institute in Germany says clearly that this research violates the Geneva Biological Weapons Conventions.[10]" Conclusion: "These remarks make it clear," says the biologist, "that we are facing enormous problems with uncontrolled research activities which, combined with a wide variety of power interests and new unimagined possibilities in the field of biotechnology, are threatening humanity more seriously than conventional weapons. We must stand up for this issue to be discussed in public and that international control bodies be created."
